156: Will Your Long-Winded Speeches Never End?

Job 14-16
"Will your long-winded speeches never end?" - Job 16:3

The quote today pretty much sums up how I'm beginning to feel about this book. They're starting to repeat things they've already said. It's no wonder people think the bible is boring. It's not that most of the stories are particularly bad, it's just that the writers feel they need to repeat everything about 5 times.

Job's really starting to get pissed that his friends are trying to defend God. He tells them that if they were in his place they wouldn't be saying the things they are. But he also says that if he were in their place that he would be making eloquent speeches in God's defense too. Self admitted hypocrisy is the best kind.

We all know that Ouija boards are the tools that evil spirits use to get inside of us. But they're now more dangerous than ever, they're colored pink!

I've actually never tried out a Ouija board. Somehow I think that "evil spirits" wouldn't show up with a room full of skeptics. What is it about a piece of cardboard that allows the spirits to take us over?

Of course, fundies don't take well to logic, so they're up in arms about their young daughters being targeted by this malicious piece of pink cardboard with letters printed on it.

Depends on how many pranksters are in the room. All it takes is one guy to think it's funny to mess with his/her friends and the Ouija board will suddenly "come to life".

When you have a belief in evil spirits, it's tough to try to explain that some evil spirits are real and others are just products of an overactive imagination or one of your friends messing with you. How can you tell the difference? Better to just assume that spirits exist and are all servants of the Devil than accidentally cause them to think critically about something like that.

  2. I have a theory that Ouija boards work by acts of the subconscious. People who think they work always say they know what they found with the board was true, but they couldn't have known it before hand - like the only person who knew it was out of the room at the time. But someone knew it, and you can pick up information subconsciously. Just like seeing a god is a hallucination, a Ouija board is just one part of your brain talking to another.

I haven't done any real research into this, so don't quote me. It's just my theory.
